OCTAGON building the second stage of the office complex Hermes Business Campus

Hermes Business Campus - building C

Bucharest, October 15^th 2014: OCTAGON CONTRACTING & ENGINEERING, a company that specializes in civil and geotechnical construction works, started works on building C of the office complex Hermes Business Campus. The complex will be developed in three stages and this is the second stage. The works performed by OCTAGON will have a total value of 6.2 mil euro.

OCTAGON will build the infrastructure, consisting in diaphragm walls D 800, bored piles D 1,000 and D 1,500, foundation raft, crown beam. The company will also execute the superstructure of building C.

Hermes Business Campus - building C

“The fact that we are continuing works on the second stage of the complex Hermes Business Campus allows us to use the experience accumulated in the first stage to obtain better results and contributes to the project coherence. Construction works on building C started in September, and now we are building the special foundations.” said Mr. Alexandros Ignatiadis, co- founder and shareholder of OCTAGON CONTRACTING & ENGINEERING.

In July 2014 OCTAGON delivered the first stage of the project. The company was general contractor for building B within the complex, developed by NGY Properties Investment, the Romanian branch of the Belgian group Atenor. The building covers 37,000 sqm, has 4 underground floors, 8 ground floors and one technical floor and has been fully leased.

2010, when OCTAGON won the infrastructure contract, consisting in the execution of  diaphragm walls, bored piles, excavation and foundation in top-down system, as well as the execution of the structure of levels -3 and -4.

In 2013 OCTAGON took over the general contractor role from the Austrian company Alpine and continued with the execution of reinforced concreting works on the superstructure, architecture, electrical installations and HVAC.

Building B obtained BREEAM certification with excellent grade for the execution of the superstructure.

OCTAGON has performed two thirds of the contracted works for the rehabilitation of Brasov- Simeria railway, Coslariu- Sighisoara section

Brasov- Simeria Railway

OCTAGON CONTRACTING & ENGINEERING has performed two thirds of the contracted works for the rehabilitation of Brasov- Simeria railway, Coslariu- Sighisoara section, two years from the beginning of the project. The delivery term is November 2014. The beneficiary of the project is the National Railroads Company (CFR) and the general contractor for Coslariu- Sighisoara section is the Portuguese company FCC Construccion.

Brasov – Simeria railroad is a component of the Fourth Pan – European Corridor. The objective of the project is to rehabilitate and

modernize 89.5 km of double electric powered railway line between Sighişoara and Coşlariu, including all the connecting structures and auxiliary works, to ensure a maximum speed of 160 km/h for passenger trains.

The following works will be performed within the project: rehabilitation of 63.46 km of double electric powered railway line; building 26.04 km of double electric power railway line; rehabilitation of 10 railway stations.

Sheet pile execution and retention systems

The rehabilitation of the railway road will be performed with European financing, acquired within the Priority Axis nr. 1 „Modernizing and Development of Priority Axis TEN-T, with the Purpose to Develop a Sustainable Transport System and its Integration in the EU Transport Networks.", Major Intervention Domain 1.2 „Modernizing and Development of Railroad Infrastructure over the Priority Axis TEN-T 22".

Bored piles execution and retention systems

OCTAGON is performing the following works for the construction of section II- Coslariu- Sighisoara: drilling of bored piles D 1.000, anchorages, stone columns, sheet pile installation and gunite for tunnels and bridge.

company is building diaphragm walls.  The passage will have a total length of 550 meters and two exits. One of the exits will lead to Kiseleff Road and the second one will lead to Marasti Blvd.,  allow crossing the area on any direction and subsequently connect public ground transport, the railway line and the bus lines, with the station of the future metro line 6. The purpose of the passage is to streamline the traffic in one of the most crowded areas of the capital. 

Consolidation works

Another important project under construction, within which OCTAGON is working, is Lugoj- Deva Highway. The company is building bored piles for sections A, D and E, sector 2. The highway will stretch over 100 km on delivery.  Sector 2 will be 28 km long.

OCTAGON is performing foundation works: bored piles and sheet piles at the project “Passage over the rail road km 5 + 343” in Craiova.

Sheet pile retention systems

The fourth project started this year by OCTAGON is  “Functional rehabilitation of Revolutiei Square from Slobozia”. The company is part of ACM4- Romprest- TIAB- OCTAGON Consortium and is performing geotechnical works: metal sheet piles and drilling for dewatering systems, within a parking lot project.

“Even if infrastructure has not been a priority for public investments this year and the market is not going through a dynamic period, we have four new ongoing projects and we are continuing works at the rehabilitation of Brasov- Simeria railroad, a project started in 2012.  But the perspectives for infrastructure development are positive. Ziarul Financiar has interviewed eight real estate consultancy firms to draw up a top of the business centers that suit best the criteria of the companies looking for new headquarters. Extremely dynamic on the office market, in the past years, OCTAGON has been contractor within 6 of these projects.

Victoria Center building on Calea Victoriei, Sky Tower near Promenada Mall, where OCTAGON has performed infrastructure works in top- down system and AFI Business Park near AFI Palace Cotroceni Mall are the office projects in Bucharest that fit most of the criteria.

Victoria Center is the most attractive office building in Bucharest, with a leasable area under 10,000 sqm, Sky Tower is the brokers’ favorite building over 10,000 sqm, while AFI Park is the highest rated business park, according to the analysis which took ten criteria into account.

OCTAGON has performed the infrastructure works (diaphragm walls, bored piles, general excavation, crown beam) and superstructure works for this building.

Among buildings with areas over 10,000 sqm, Green Gate, located on Tudor Vladimirescu Blvd. in Bucharest is one of the most recently delivered. OCTAGON has been specialized contractor for the office building and has performed geotechnical works: diaphragm walls, bored piles, dewatering systems and crown beam. The building has 10 floors and a 39,000 sqm total area.

Green Court Bucharest- Building A

OCTAGON has also been involved in the construction of two of the largest office parks in Bucharest: Hermes Business Campus (Dimitrie Pompeiu Blvd.) and Green Court Bucharest (Gara Herastrau St.). The company was general contractor for the first office building within the complex. After delivering building A of Green Court Bucharest complex, developed by real estate giant Skanska, OCTAGON is continuing the superstructure works to building B, which will be delivered this year.

On the list of projects built by OCTAGON, listed in ZF top there is also Floreasca Park, located in northern Bucharest on Pipera Road. OCTAGON was specialized contractor and performed geotechnical works within the building.
